The tractor is a large vehicle often used for agriculture or construction purposes. The word tractor” comes from the Latin term “trahere” which means to pull.Tractors are very useful machines. on a farm, tractors are used for heavy work like plowing, harrowing, planting, watering and tilling. On the other hand, a tractor for construction is used to lift or load heavy objects. Tractors today are especially designed to perform better than the primitive ones. Apart from this, they tend to be more durable and more functional.Tractor is derived from the word “trahere,” which literally means pull. From this fact alone, we can infer the main purpose of this large vehicle. Tractors are used to draw or tow objects that are difficult to move. Using slow but powerful movements, tractors are often found on farms, enabling Utility trailers and other machinery to plow or harrow fields.
There are other types of tractors aside from the more standard farm tractors. For instance, backhoe tractors are used in many construction processes, like digging holes, completing demolitions, paving roads and breaking asphalt. They are also used to power other building equipment pieces and as light means of transportation. When used in conjunction with engineering tools, agriculture trailer may have other functions on construction sites. Other tractor types include road tractors, often used to transport freight, and locomotive tractors, often found with railway vehicles. Military units also use what are called artillery tractors for towing heavy weaponry pieces.Just like many other types of machinery, the first batch of tractors that came out in the 1800s and early part of 1900s were operated by steam engines. Aside from being obsolete, these models are no longer in use today because steam engines are unstable and may explode. Drivers may also get stuck in belt attachments. Instead of steam engines, internal combustion engines were used in later models.
Tractor-trailers today are even more advanced, as technology found a way to fuse with this heavy machinery. Aside from having on-board computers, GPS or Global Positioning Systems may also be installed in farm tractors. With this welcome development, large-scale farms can employ both manually-driven tractors and unmanned units to plow through their fields and complete other processes.
In order to ensure the safety of tractor drivers, ROPS was also introduced in the 1960s and is now a standard among the many models of tractors. The rollover protection system ensures that drivers won’t be hurt when an accident happens, usually when driving on steep slopes and subsequently rolling over the driver.
